What is the BIG Group?
BIG stands for Being Involved Group and it is a group for people with a learning disability, who come together to discuss all issues to do with their lives, including health, housing and services.
It started with the government White Paper, ‘Valuing People’, which outlined how people with a learning disability are being excluded but should, in the future, be provided with the opportunity to live full and independent lives as part of the community.
How did it all start?
It started with the government White Paper, ‘Valuing People’ published in March 2001, which outlined how people with a learning disability are being excluded but should, in the future, be provided with the opportunity to live full and independent lives as part of the community.
