Knowsley Older People’s Voice and Knowsley Council are pleased to announce the launch of a Financial Guide for Older residents in Knowsley
It is more important than ever to make sure you are receiving what you are entitled to. In particular, figures show that many people are missing out on Pension Credit which opens doors to other support, including the Winter Fuel Payment, help with housing costs, council tax and heating bills. You can read more about how to claim Pension Credit here.
This guide, funded by Better Together, provides residents over the age of 55 with a range of information to maximise their income.
Managing money is important for everyone, but particularly so in later life. For many older people, income from state and workplace pensions is likely to be less than income from previous paid employment. Our ability to increase levels of income will be more difficult during retirement and at the same time, there may be additional expense.
A reduced income and raised expense may impact the leisure and social activities we wish to take part in and could ultimately lead to loneliness and social isolation.
This guide aims to help our older residents in Knowsley to manage their finances in three main ways:
- Offering information about ways in which older people may be able to increase low levels of income
- Information about steps they may be able to take to reduce their outgoings
- General information about a range of financial topics which may help with decision making and planning
