If you receive community-based care and support from the Council, including Direct payments, you will be subject to a financial assessment to enable an accurate calculation of the contribution you need to pay towards the services you receive.
From April this year, Knowsley Council is applying its new policy for charging for care and support services. The Policy has been updated to reflect the Council’s responsibilities under the new Care Act 2014 regulations and differs from the previous Fairer Charging Policy in one key aspect: from April 2015 Knowsley Council will be undertaking financial assessments on an annual basis rather than every three years.
People currently receiving community based care services will be re-assessed during the period from 1 April 2015 to 30 September 2015 and any difference in charges arising from re-assessment under this new Policy will take effect from 5 October 2015.
The overarching principle is that people should only be required to pay what they can afford.
You can find a copy of the Policy here.
If you have received a letter telling you about the new amount you must pay, you must make sure you arrange to change the regular payments into your Direct Payments bank account.
If you disagree with your new financial assessment, make sure you get a written breakdown of how the charge has been calculated and use this to check that all of your eligible expenditure has been taken into account. To request a visit or query a charging assessment, telephone 0151 443 4045.
